General Info

Sabattus Primary & Central School Libraries serve grades K-8 in Maine's School Union #44. Fiction and non-fiction books appropriate to all ages and reading levels are available to the students, teachers and staff of the Sabattus Schools.

Library Focus:
Technology Literacy

Oliver knows computers are great tools! In addition to traditional print resources, this library teaches with an emphasis on quality electronic resources.

The use of computers is an essential skill for today's youth. The amount of information available on the Internet and in databases far out-weighs that which could be housed in the library.

The goal is to instill in students a familiarity with technology, and an understanding of how computers can be used to benefit their lives.

Goal of the Library:
Cultivate in students a love of literature and reading, and teach the value of technology.

The library is open during school hours. The policy for checking out books is as follows:
  • K-1st grade students - one book at a time
  • 2nd grade students - up to two books
  • 3rd-8th grade students - up to three books

Students are responsible for library materials while checked out. For any books damaged or missing, students will be billed, and the library will repair or replace the book. Please do not attempt to repair or replace books yourself.

The Librarian and Media Specialist, Ms. Maureen Driscoll, is here to help people locate the books they need, and to teach library principles and research techniques. She attended the University of Maine at Farmington for undergraduate, and also earned her Masters of Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.) degree from Syracuse University in 2003. When she's not in the library or reading, she is either hiking, playing her fiddle, kayaking, playing with her dog Regan, or in Ireland. You can contact her at maureen.driscoll@schoolunion44.org

Many volunteers also assist in keeping the library running. They help Ms. Driscoll prepare new books for use, reshelve returned books, check books in and out, and do whatever else is needed in managing a class full of library-loving students.
